June 23 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm

The 100th anniversary of the start of work on the Kyogle to Brisbane rail line will be celebrated with a Sod Turning Re-enactment at the Kyogle Showgrounds on Tuesday, 23 June at 10.30am for 11am start.
As a nation building exercise the then Commonwealth Attorney General the Hon. Mr JG Latham, KC, representing the Prime Minister, attended Kyogle on the 23 June 1926 turning the first sod of soil on the construction of a single gauge railway line through the rugged Macpherson Ranges.
The construction of this railway line, including the engineering marvel that is the Cougal Spiral Border Loop would take four years to complete, opening in September 1930.
As a call-to-action, Kyogle Museum welcomes all community members and railway enthusiasts to join the 2030 Centenary Kyogle – Brisbane Railway Committee to commence planning for the centenary year.
