Tidy Towns-State Winner-Kyogle
Sunday 13th November 2011
The citizens of Kyogle are standing and taking a bow- as Kyogle took out the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Overall Tidy Towns, Sustainable Communities title at the recent annual awards held in Lithgow. The town will now go on to represent NSW at the National Awards to be held in Canberra next year.
As the tidy Towns assessor, Gary Howling commented, “I found community participation in Kyogle to be both wide in its reach, deep in commitment and inspirational in the quality of its vision. Council and youth combine remarkably well with senior residents to ensure an effective mix of energy, vibrancy and efficiency. The local Tidy Towns Committee is worthy of particular commendation for its commitment to ensuring that anyone who has something to offer is able to find a place, encouragement and acknowledgement of their involvement.”
As well as winning the overall state award, Kyogle won its catergory (towns with populations between 1201-4000), the Waste Management and Litter Reduction award and the Wildlife Corridors and Habitats Conservation Award. It was also highly commended in the Bush Spirit Award and the Schools Environment Award.
