Kyogle wins gold at National Tidy Towns award

Kyogle won the Young Legends category award at the Keep Australia Beautiful, Australian Tidy Towns Awards 2012 at the national awards ceremony and vice-Regal reception hosted by the Governer-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CBO at her Tarralumla residence in Canberra on 8th May.
Environmental awareness and education programs are an integral part of education in Kyogle with students actively involved in numerous community activities and partnerships.
Kyogle was also commended for its efforts in both the ‘Dame Phyllis Frost’ litter Prevention and Environmental Innovation and Protection categories.
Through innovation and excellence, Kyogle has developed a number of projects that have enabled the town to become more sustainable and provide access, conservation and ingenuity to the local community. Projects include community & school food gardens, partnerships with numerous Landcare initiatives and community climate change workshops.
Caloundra, in Queensland was the overall Tidy wons winner this year.
In November, Kyogle (being the last winner) will be hosting the next NSW state awards weekend. Once again this will be an opportunity for the local community to showcase what Kyogle has to offer.
