Kyogle Railway Station 100th Anniversary

Thursday 14th January 2010

The Centenary of Rail to Kyogle event will be a step back in time with people dressed in period costume, the Official Party arriving by Horse and Carriage, children skipping rope and playing marbles, Brass Band playing our Kyogle Railway Station decorated in similar fashion as in 1910. The newspaper of the day described “On reaching Kyogle, a very pretty spectacle was presented, the butter factory was gaily decorated with flags and bunting, and the station was also bedizened like a bride on her wedding day”.

Scott McGregor Actor/TV Presenter and Rail Enthusiast will be the Master of Ceremonies bringing his sparkling character to ensure a memorable event. Country Link has generously supplied two 1st Class tickets Kyogle to Brisbane return and the Mantra in Brisbane has generously offered a Weekend Holiday Voucher to be won as part of the celebrations.

Our station will be opened up with a display of its contribution and service to Kyogle and District over the last 100 years and examine some “Future Opportunities”.  A concept proposal for the sympathetic refurbishment of the building to enable our grand old station to once again be a significant economic driver well into the future, providing opportunities for a transit centre incorporating bus services and tourism based opportunities. With Brisbane only 2 hours away the romance of train travel can be relived on weekend getaways.

Local service groups will provide refreshments on the day and car parking will be restricted to the “Old Goods Yard” area of the railway precinct, parking marshals will show the way. This will allow free movement around the Station for our Celebrations.
