Base yourself here; and journey through Urbenvilles breathtaking scenic beauty, plus the areas cultural and historical significance. The imposing volcanic plug of Coutts Crown Mountain indicates your arrival into Urbenville and a journey to a truly remarkable experience. This area is a biodiversity hot spot with the National Parks and State Forests surrounding the village rich in flora and fauna.
There is nothing urban about this NSW-Queensland border town perched high on a Richmond Range plateau with views that go on forever, deep in the heart of dairy, beef and logging country.
Ten kilometres off the Mt Lindesay Highway on the link road to the Bruxner Highway, Urbenville is in old gold fields territory about 100km south-east of Warwick.
Across the valley to the west where the gold rush was centred on an area bordering what is now the Tooloom National Park, a cemetery tells a tragic tale of death and disappointment. The gold story is also part of the history recorded in an historic cottage museum in Urbenville.
About 30km or so north-east of Urbenville is the decidedly rugged Mount Barney National Park which, informed literature tells us, “is suitable mainly for the self-reliant and reasonably fit visitor with sound bush skills.’ A significant place for nature conservation, the park attempts to protect many rare and restricted plant species, especially in the high peaks.
