Kyogle Council is about to embark on a major project of replacing six wooden bridges along the Grady’s Creek and Lions Road, through the Australian Government Bridge Renewal Program.
Construction will take place over 3 stages with works beginning in early January 2017 AND LASTING UP TO 6 MONTHS. This will result in changed traffic conditions, detours and longer travel times around some of these sites for local residents, and will therefore be closed from all entrances to tourist traffic.
Murrays Bridge (10.5km on Grady’s creek Rd from Summerland way) will be the first bridge to be demolished and replaced and will be CLOSED to all traffic during stage one. Council hopes to remove this bridge on 19 December ‘16 subject to the end of school term to all for pile installation early in January.
Council apologies for any inconvenience but in the long run there will be improved safer access for residents and motorists, safer routes for school buses, improved access for emergency, essential services and less maintenance in the future for council staff. Also with the new, more sturdy bridges, load limits will be removed along the route making it easier for heavy vehicles but keeping in mind that the road structure and curves do not allow caravans and/or mobile homes to travel along this road.
Contact either council on 66321611 or Kyogle Visitors Information Centre on 66322700 for further information.
